After the original building burned down years ago, Tom simply kept serving drinks. Tarps went up. Wood got nailed together. Someone dragged in a boat. Then another boat. Over time, a few more creative structural decisions were made.

Somewhere along the way it stopped being just a bar and became something else entirely — part folk art installation, part island landmark, and a place where you might receive life advice you absolutely did not ask for.

Perched on the shores of Lake Superior, Tom’s Burned Down Cafe is one of Wisconsin’s most beloved and delightfully unconventional establishments.

This vintage comic-style postcard tee is a small tribute to a place that could probably only exist on Madeline Island.
